Walter grew up on a diverse crop and livestock farm near Mason City, Illinois. His high school peers predicted he would become a forester because of his 4-H conservation projects; but he instead took the route of becoming a CPA and to develop an “agriculture niche.”
His experience as a CPA has helped him to understand the true benefits of conservation developed over the years on different landscapes. His land ethic was instilled at an early age in him via his parents. He believes our soils are a piece of the biological capital farmers can manage in order to have thriving rural communities.
Walter is the current chairman of Holistic Management International in Albuquerque, NM and current CFO of the Understanding Ag, LLC. He also served as National Treasurer of the Izaak Walton League of America from 2007-2017.
