POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Farm Director will oversee operations and develop opportunities for Chico State agriculture students, faculty, staff, and our local agricultural industry. The Farm Director, as a member of the College of Agriculture’s (COA) leadership team, reports to the Dean of the College. The Farm is fundamental to the University’s strategic priority toward resilient and sustainable systems. An overarching goal is for the Farm to be a living laboratory for our students and the faculty, and a center of excellence for education and training in agriculture.

Responsibilities Highlights
• Work directly with Dean to advance strategic plan of the College.
• Work closely with current Farm Administrator during a transitionperiod (less than one year) and assume full  administrative responsibilities thereafter.
• Meet with the farm advisory committee twice each semester to discuss Farm development.
• Fully support the COA’s academic programs, experiential learning, and research opportunities.
• Diversify and solidify funding sources through industry partnerships and research collaborations.
• Develop new and strengthen existing collaborations with private and public agriculture industries.
• Initiate and cultivate collaborations with faculty and programs across campus.
• Develop and implement forums and events featuring local,regional, national, and global speakers.

Required Qualifications
• A Master of Science degree in animal science, plant science, agricultural business, agricultural economy, plant pathology, agriculture systems, or similar discipline.
• Five-year experience in farm management, agricultural business, or extension-like services.

Preferred Qualifications
• Networking experience with agriculture industries (private and public sectors)
• Record in successfully securing resources through federal and private funding agencies.
• Knowledge of the agriculture industry and regulatory programs.
• Ability to manage operations and personnel for a diversified farming enterprise.
• Understanding of climate change impacts and knowledge of regenerative agricultural practices and climate smart technologies.
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Time Base: Full-time
Pay Plan: 12 months
Compensation: Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. The position includes an attractive
benefits/retirement package including 16 hours per month vacation plus holidays.
