Blue Dirt Farm supplies a variety of pasture & woodland-raised products direct to consumer, specializing in Mangalitza and heritage breed pork.
Tasks will include: Moving livestock during the growing season on a daily or regular schedule, routine chores, assisting with on-farm research projects, building or improving portable livestock infrastructure, structure, land, & farm maintenance, repairs, purchasing materials & supplies, machine/field work, and delivering or picking up products & supplies. Working with us will be an opportunity to gain experience with virtual fencing, an exciting disruptive technology that will transform livestock management and enable rapid scaling up of regenerative principles.
Additional duties and project execution may be assigned to a qualified candidate. These include business administration work, website improvement & maintenance, marketing, sales, social media, and helping with events.
The ideal candidate will have the following:
Mechanic skills; repairing farm implements, vehicles, tractors, etc. Including fabrication & welding, knowledge of hydraulic & electrical systems, etc.
Experience with safe and efficient operation of various machinesand vehicles including tractors, skid-steer, and towing trailers. Extra consideration and pay for applicants with a CDL.
Organizational & project management skills. The ability to strategically manage a list of projects and tasks is highly desirable.
Adaptability to changing priorities as factors like weather, unexpected problems, or market considerations influence the workflow.
Physical strength and stamina needed to do farm work in any conditions when required.
Livestock experience with pigs, cattle, and/or poultry is helpful but not required.
Resourcefulness, decisiveness, and the ability to overcome everyday challenges.
Ability to understand the depth and complexity of nature’s patterns and ways is essential!
Hours will start at 20 per week, possibly more, with flexible scheduling Monday through Friday 8-5. Weekend availability for up to 2 hours of chores, morning and evening, 1-2 times per month is highly desired.
A successful applicant will work in alignment with their strengths on various tasks at Blue Dirt Farm and may also be assigned work with Haase Family Farms LLC. Haase Family Farms is a sixth generation farm primarily focused on corn and soybean production while implementing soil health practices.
As the business grows or if additional employment with Haase Family Farms is a good fit, this position will become full time.
Pay rates will be competitive and in alignment with the level of responsibilities taken. Opportunities for raises and bonuses will be performance-based and offered as soon as they become feasible.
